By "28-27NPT, I assume you mean 1/8-27NPT? Watch out, there is also 1/8-27NPTF.

On the wrenches, are you using 6-point flare nut wrenches? One some fittings I have found that neither the inch or metric wrenches fit to my satisfaction, but the 6-point flare nut wrenches do.
