one less die to make and they do not have to store or ship the gasket - that's it - them being cheap. Watch which gasket maker you use - many now break down when contacted with oil - takes awhile but the darn stuff fails. I have gone to using some dark grey gasket goop made for gear boxes - seems to work as well or better than the copper stuff used to work.
PITA - at times I make my own gaskets - which work just fine once installed.
