OT; Trans pan gasket for 09

New truck to me.
There's no gasket. Just a formed silicon bead. It worked; there were no leaks. But this is pain getting it off. I bet I have an hour in it already. In a shop, I'd just put a new pan on.
Why this route instead of a regular gasket? Are they that unreliable?
