I have an e-brake cable that has become frayed (4 or 5 broken strands)
where it goes through the bracket before it reaches the handle. Is
it ok to silver older the broken strands back to the bundle or will the
heat cause problems with the rest of the cable? Also, does anyone
know if there is a place that makes replacement e-brake cables? If
I send the ends and the plastic sleeve.
Thanks,
Bill

- Don't solder or braze the frayed cable. You'll only temper the steel thus
weakening it. Soon it will break. (One of those things that will break
when it's parked on a hill of course...)
I had a new one made for my '48 Pw by Tewco Inc. Tewco is a national company
with offices in most major cities.
They made the whole thing. Cable outer with new ends, inner cable, eyelet
end, and threaded end. Just thread your clevis on. You must bring in your
old one for sizing etc. Get the 3000lb test size. I paid $47 in 1994. If
you can't find the outlet in your city, the Milwaukee WI number is 414-423-8080

- I did this and the people in Milwaukee referred me to a company in Kent,
WA that handles this service for them. I was thinking that if I were
to pass this information along to you, you could include it with the information
that Steve provided to save our PW buds from having to make a long distance
phone call to get the info that I already have. I will pass it on
to you and you can post it or not as you wish. The company's name
is Instrument Sales & Service, 18814 72nd Ave. S., Kent, WA 98032. Their
phone # is 425-251-9092. I sent them the old cable and they made
a new one that works quite well with only a couple of minor modifications
(the cable was a tad longer than the old one and a slightly larger ferrule
on one end that I had to widen the bracket for). The new cable cost
me ~$75.
Thanks again,
