Sunday I had the pleasure of sitting on the side of I5 at the base of the Grapevine in California. We were headed to San Diego and had just started up the Grapevine when there was a loud bang under the hood. I managed to get off the road to a very wide shoulder. I lifted the hood and immediately saw what happened. The inter cooler tube had blown off the intake manifold. The fitting was plastic and was totally destroyed. Long story short. We sat for 5 hours for a tow truck to arrive. Most tow companies were closed or didn�t tow more than 10k lbs and I was close to 13k. We called ahead parts store and they had what we needed. The tow truck driver took over the grapevine to Castaic to the store 10 min before they closed. I go in and found that they sold the part that they were holding to someone else. I ordered one to be delivered in the morning. I went back to the tow truck a told what happened. At that time the guy from the store said that their store in Santa Clarita had the part and was open to 9. The tow truck hooked us back up and hauled us to that store. I got the part and we were unhooked from the tow truck in the parking lot. It took me about 40 min to install the new part and we were back on the road close to 10 pm. We breezed through LA at 70 mph without a single slow down. That has to be the quickest trip through LA for me.
The tow truck driver was the best I have ever seen. He really bent over backwards for us.
