Here are three images...the bottom seat frame, the original material (which basically looks and feels like 3 pieces of roofing tar paper),

and a finished upright seat frame.

the material does not go on top of the springs. It sits on the bottom frame with "the soft-firm valve adjustment. The springs then sit on top of the tar paper material.
