Hi Jerry, I blew air in the line and could hear it come through into the oil pan. There was a gauge at the block when I primed the engine using a drill and pressure was around 70 psi. I'm guessing, but I think someone installed a BBC oil pump, but failed to make the modification to the pump-housing cover by drilling the bypass pressure-relief channel to 3/8 inch, and plugging it. This is done to provide adequate bypass volume during cold starts and at high rpms. I'll be removing the pan in the near future and see what the engine has as a pump, and if it's a 5 bolt, see if the modification was missed. I'll also check the rods/mains bearings clearances to see what they are set at. I know racing engines generally run clearances a little loose and it may be why the engine runs higher pressure. Thanks!
