Turn Signal light fixtures

I have searched through the pictures posted on this site and notice a variety of mount locations for front facing turn signal fixtures. Some are fender mounted, some are mounted on the grill, some on the bumper and some are mounted on the radiator cowl. If a FFPW came from the factory equipped with turn signals, where were they mounted on a 1954 unit? Were the cowl marker lights ever used as turn signals in addition to side marker lights? Mine didn�t have turn signals originally and the cowl side lights were a single wire for parking lights only.
