Do you have a table saw? I did my trucks bed using white oak I got from the local country ill. After planing them down to 13/16", I sawed them to length and width. Then using the dado blade on the saw rabbeted the slot on the adjacent boards.
For the side boards I used a jig saw (but a band saw would have been easier)..
Actually, one thing I did that was helpful was I got some 3/4 pine boards from the store and used them as test pieces for the project, especially helpful with the cuts around the wheel wells. When I got them all "right" I transferred their shape and did the oak boards.
Finally I cut the rectangle for the fuel sender and did the center tailgate hinge.
