What is scary is the environmental people behind the engineers that set some of the dumbest rules for the automotive industry. I ran into basicallly a forced shutdown on my diesel truck as the downstream NOX sensor failed. The truck went into a warning 50 miles until 50mph speed limit then it almost went it into idle only mode. It would have immediately if I had added DEF or put fuel in the tank. So it’s ok to put a diesel truck on the side of the road. Just try to get into a dealer or repair shop while traveling. Most places are backed up for weeks. Funny thing is they won’t put you on the side of the road fora failed O2 sensor in a gas powered vehicle.

I found out an interesting thing when getting parts for my Ford. If you go into the dealer and buy a part it will cost you msrp + $. If you go to ford.onlineparts.com and select your dealer and select the same part it will cost you 40% less. That saved me $240 on the NOX sensor. So you can walk into the same dealer get the same identical part for 40% off msrp or pay their infated price which is above msrp. Additionally, it appears that if you buy an electrical part in the parts counter you get 1 or 2 year warranty. If they install the part you will pay the inflated price and good luck getting the warranty.
