Right before the coil, on the + side. The resistor drops the voltage to the coil from 12v to 6v.
Typically they are wired so that the coil gets 12v when the starter is cranking, then it reverts to 6v when the engine is running. This requires a jumper wire from the starter terminal to the coil side of the resistor.
