The front axle universal drive assemblies are designed so the universal joints will oscillate around the same axis as the steering knuckle trunnion pins. So any time you change an axle or steering knuckle, axle housing, differential parts or sidewise adjustment of of the drive gear, you have to check and make any adjustment before you drive the truck. To adjust the axle shaft end play, shims have to be added under the button, axle assembly installed, install the steering knuckle, brake plate and measure the distance from the steering knuckle inner bearing shoulder to the flat shoulder of the splines of the outter axle shaft. The distance s/b 4.382 or a full 4-3/8ths, if not, pull apart and add or remove shims, repeat until the get the required length. A pain working with the B/W assemblies, where the Rzeppa axle assembly doesn't require this adjustment.
