The shop manual for "W" Series Dodge Trucks D-11318, says, "Never install new brake linings only on one wheel. Reline both front or both rear brakes at the same time using the same kind of lining"

As I read that it tells me that linings of the same thickness and kind of lining on each backing plate both front or both rear. Hope that helps.
