Since the engine was swapped who knows what the trans is. Who knows if the trans has been rebuilt and that is left over debris from what caused a rebuild.

You can quickly tell if it is a synchro trans or not. Look at the location of the shift tower in the floor. If it is about an inch from the front edge of the removable center floor, it is a synchro trans. If the tower is back several inches from the front edge (centered in trans cover) then it is a non-synchro trans. There are two non-synchro trans (Up TO and After) and they can be identified by the drain plug the After has a horizontal plug while the Up to has a slanted plug. There are casting numbers on the side of the trans which will give you a positive id. You can post the casting numbers here and someone will help you. A 55 PW probably has an Afer non-synchro trans.
