Am I missing something? There is absolutely no way pipe sealant would help seal an inverted flare fitting. That's like putting teflon tape on your house hose bib to stop your garden hose from leaking at the connection. Either your inverted flares are not well formed and thus leak or you don't have inverted flare fittings at your joints. I don't see how you could build a brake system using standard brake line fittings and not have an inverted flare at each joint. The treads at joint do not form the seal, they only are used to clamp/crush the inverted flare with sufficient force to seal the joint.
