My 251 has a lifting bracket attached to the engine via studs rather than the regular head bolts. The manual says torque to 70 ft-lbs, but it doesn't mention studs. At 70 ft-lbs, the fine thread nuts on the studs will put more tension in them compared to the regular regular bolts. The regular bolts are 14 pitch whereas the SAE threads on the top of the studs are 20 pitch. Should I be torquing them the same as the regular bolts, or should I cut the torque by 14/20 (50 ft-lbs) to make the tension in the studs match that of the bolts? The 230 I took apart a while back didn't have any head studs so I never had to figure it out.
