The boosters I've seen have a screw on the end of the rod and lock nut. Adjust the nut and lock it down. If yours is a solid rod you will probably have to grind it in place. Does yours pull out? Just take your time with it, and give it a slight roundover on the end, to match the end of the gauge so the engagement is the same. You want about 0.020" clearance between the rod and the master cylinder.
