Ken, Thanks for the comments. I don't think it is clumping as the material is ceramic, everything was dry, and the installation is new so there doesn't seem to have been time for wear. The comment on mud is interesting though; it's been too dry here for mud but I may have gotten a rock lodged somewhere in a wheel.
