Well, I'm at 44.2˚ and can get by without oil gas or coal for heat. It's not as convenient, but most of the time I heat our home with wood in our single woodstove. Only when I get lazy, sick, or will be leaving on a trip do we heat with our propane boiler. It helps when you have acres of hardwoods and enjoy harvesting firewood.
If we were going to be doing this without the propane backup, I'd install a high-efficiency wood boiler (with a large hot water storage tank to improve efficiency)and pipe it into what our propane boiler now feeds.
